Over the Rhine in New Zealand

We’re packing our bags today and leaving for New Zealand in the morning. We’re terribly excited about this trip. I haven’t been outside of the country since my trip to visit Jack and Hazel and Finlay in Scotland during Christmas of 2003.

New Zealand is a special place for me, not only because it’s truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, but because it was there that I decided to start a band. Friends of ours, Sandie and Owen, were playing a festival outside of Wellington and somehow invited me along to play bass. Standing in those mountains in front of 400 kids in the rain who refused to leave reminded me that music was home for me. I wanted to write some songs and see if people would ever care enough about them to stand in the rain and listen. A few months later, back in Ohio, Over the Rhine began recording a handful of first demos. Now, finally, this music is going to take us back to Wellington to the New Zealand International Arts Festival for five performances. We’re playing a festival in Keri Keri, and stopping in Auckland for various appearances. Sometimes you just have to raise a glass on a Sunday Morning and celebrate the small victories.

I think we’re going to make Mimosas.

The Limited Edition LIVE CD’s didn’t make it to the farm in time for us to sign them, so that will all have to happen when we return from New Zealand. Sorry for the delay. They will all be shipped out at the end of March.

If you’d still like to order a copy of “Live From Nowhere, Volume One” go to Overtherhine.com. You can see the track listing, the artwork and also check out a few MP-3’s for a little striptease. We think you’re going to like this special collection that reminds us of a wonderful year on the road with a great band and crew and the world’s best music fans to boot.

In May we’ll be touring the West Coast and parts of the Midwest. A band called HEM is planning on joining us. Stay tuned at overtherhine.com for more info on that. The working title for the tour is “Gorgeously Stoned On You” but whether or not that sticks is anyone’s guess.

Echiong Green albums re-mastered, re-released

The Echoing Green “Songs of Innocence and Experience - Hope and Science” (2CD) $14 — This double-disc is a re-mastered, re-release of two albums by The Echoing Green which have been out-of-print for several years. The “Hope Springs Eternal” album, produced by American synthpop legend Seven Red Seven, and the fan-only rarities collection called “Science Fiction” are available once again with eye-popping new artwork and a better sound for fans both new and old. It’s available from http://www.adifferentdrum.com

News from www.velvetbluemusic.com

1. new releases …………

VBM 107 - RICHARD SWIFT - The Novelist / Walking Without Effort 2 x 12″ + bonus cd. This will be available on March 1st, or a bit sooner for those of you who pre-ordered it. This is a double 12″ on high quality vinyl in a gatefold jacket + it includes a bonus cd inside with Mr. Swifts personal home recorded demos. This is a co-release with our pals at Secretly Canadian.

VBM 105 - LN - Dirt Floor Hotel Part II cd - In case you didn’t know LN is over and this is their last release. Absolutely stunning and amazing end to a great band. Minimal, smooth, and heart aching. “These songs are so raw and rough that you can almost feel the pain that was spent crafting these 11 songs” - Smother Magazine “Any fan of Red House Painters, Nick Drake, Nick Cave, Clem Snide or any folksy-indie rock should look into LN, it’s completely worth the tim, effort, and cash” - Punkbands.com “LN has again stretched itself musically, creating a work that is full, stripped down, emotional, sad, warm, cold, touching, and expertly produced” - Somewherecold.com

VBM 106 - Kissing Cousins - Self-titled cd ep - Oh, all the hype. All girl band crafting lo-fi-ish, dark guitar lines with ultra sultry vocals. Sonic Youth meets PJ Harvey. They are on the new Vice sampler, opening for Low and The New Year, Richard Swift, getting great press, and hitting the road for a short outing in April. “Kissing Cousins certainly know how to set the mood, so even if the big boys don’t notice, this ep will do wonders for your love life” - Crap Filter Magazine “Their songs are left dark, brooding, and superbly lo-fi. Because that’s what makes them extremely artistic and angsty, without the angst” - Smother Magazine

VBM 103 - LN - Without Your Song 7″ - First LN songs on vinyl. A side is the title track, B side is a beautiful, super slowed down version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. Beautiful silver jacket too !

VBM 102 - SILVER CITIES - Emergency cd ep - If you haven’t heard of heard about these guys, you will. Their recent live shows (opening for She Wants Revenge, Adorable, Richard Swift, The 88, etc) have brought them quite a buzz around town. The 5 songs ep is a post punk, late 70’s, early rock, drama, you can dance to ? ” Silver Cities is not a carbon copy of The Killers, Franz Ferdinand or whatever the dance-rock-du-jour is on the airwaves. The album has very solid hooks” - Crap Filter Magazine

2. news ………………
Kissing Cousins have finished recording their new ep “EP2″ which will be released in March.

Map have finished the recording of their new 6 song ep “San Francisco in the 90’s” (produced by Jason Martin), which should be out sometime in April. We are also trying to include the Map video for “Monk with a Gun” directed by Richard Swift on this new ep as well.

The Calico Sunset, have gone crazy, scrapped the 5 song ep they turned in last month, and have recorded another 5 songs (with J. Dooley on guitars). Artwork for this is being completed now.

Gary Murray (of LN) will begin work on his first solo effort later this month. We are all very excited for this !

Silver Cities have been writing and rehearsing new songs and gearing up to record their first full length. Also as you’ve probably seen, they are playing like a million shows.

Other Desert Cities have been taking forever to get the artwork completed for their follow up record, but we promise it will all be worth the wait.

Soon we’ll have selected VBM releases available at Itunes, we’ll keep you posted.
