Take a train trip with CJ/OTR!

Junk Mail June 1, 2006

Hello All: As you may have already gathered, the band is taking most of the summer off from the road and concentrating on recording the new CD, which we will have out sometime in 2007. We do have some news, however. We want to let everyone know we’re going to have a very special Cowboy Junkies Train Trip from November 10 to 14, 2006. We’re chartering a train from Toronto to Vancouver, we’ve invited along some of our favourite bands (Skydiggers, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Over the Rhine and Fred Eaglesmith), and it should be an amazing trip. Here’s the setting: A tiny stage, dim lights, the clink of glasses and the hush of conversation gone silent; the first dreamy notes as musicians plug in… you’re on a train across Canada with Cowboy Junkies and friends. Three days and nights of music on board the last great long-distance streamline train still operating in North America - Via Rail’s legendary CANADIAN from Toronto to Vancouver.

Click here for all the details: http://www.flyingunderradar.com/rails/cjtrain06.htm

That’s all for now. Have a great summer. We’ll see you soon. Margo, Michael, Pete and Alan (Cowboy Junkies)

Hear Pillar’s new song

Pillar writes to say, “The new album continues to come along nicely. Just last week we
wrote two more songs that have the potential to be the best of the lot. Last Friday was an off day on The Warriors Tour so we went back in the studio for the day to record these two new
jams. The working titles for these two songs are “The Reckoning” and “Autumn”. Rob has two more weeks in the studio booked after the tour to finish up vocals. Check out these 3 short video clips from our day in the studio.”

“We also had several meetings with our management and record label last week to discuss the new album. It appears the new album will be released in October. Once we get a set release
date we will let you all know. While that may appear to be a long wait just know that we are planning something for you all this very early summer. Something that will make you all happy.
It might involve some new songs and audio from a live show? So do you guys want to hear a new song? Right now? We will be leaking a rough mix of our new song “Everything” this week on
the tour podcast”

THE WARRIORS TOUR PODCAST
Pillar will be leaking a rough mix of their new song “Everything” this week on a Warriors Tour podcast episode. If you don’t know what a podcast you better head over to www.thewarriorstour.com (podcast section) and check it out if you want to hear this new song.

TOURING WITH POD
Pillar is currently on tour with POD, The Chariot, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster as part of The Warriors II Tour. The tour is half over and will soon be on its way to conquer the

been very humble and cool with everyone. No “rockstar” attitudes from anyone on this tour.

Jade Tree is pleased to announce the digital release of PEDRO THE LION’s Tour EP 2004 (JT1120). Tour EP 2004 will be available through digital outlets on May 9, 2006. Recorded live in-studio while the band toured in support of Achilles’ Heel, the digital only Tour EP 2004 features an assortment of PEDRO THE LION originals, in addition to three diverse covers. The EP, originally self-released in July of 2004 by the band, culls from the extensive PEDRO THE LION back catalog, featuring new arrangements of ‘Transcontinental,’ ‘I Am Always The One Who Calls,’ and ‘Slow and Steady Wins The Race,’ juxtaposed against unique covers from Randy Newman, Cat Power and Radiohead. The end result captures the fundamental nature of PEDRO THE LION; averting conjecture over solemn swells of emotion, coaxing the angst from everyday life, but ultimately, never losing sight of a distant hope. The curtain may have been called on PEDRO THE LION as a full band earlier this year, but these songs are a
n erstwhile reminder of the expansive allure that once was PEDRO THE LION.

1. Transcontinental
2. I Am Always The One Who Calls
3. Slow and Steady Wins The Race
4. Political Science (Randy Newman)
5. Metal Heart (Cat Power)
6. Let Down (Radiohead)

The EP will be available through iTunes US, UK, EU and eMusic among many others.

Viva Voce releasing third album this fall

Viva Voce will be releasing their third full length, Get Yr Blood Sucked Out, September 12th on Barsuk Records in the US, and August 14th on Full Time Hobby Records in Europe.

Kevin and Anita Robinson formed Viva Voce (pronounced VEE-vah-VOH-chay - Italian for “by word of mouth”) in their native Muscle Shoals, AL, in 1998. Heeding the call of the woods, they relocated to Portland, OR, in 2001.

Get Yr Blood Sucked Out is their third LP, and is a markedly dark and sultry record, epic in scope and anything but simple in formulation. Anita’s rock-god(dess) guitar excursions (she says she hopes this record makes people enjoy guitars again) and Kevin’s thunderous drumming combine in an intense, empowering album. Perhaps their most violently guitar driven album to date, Get Yr Blood Sucked Out sums up the struggle to keep things innocent and pure in a world full of vampires waiting to suck the life out of you.

Unlike the consciously minimal approach of some of Viva Voce’s two-piece contemporaries, the band’s ambition both live and on record is to achieve multi-layered musical feats of amazement: an underlying deftness of arrangement and composition supports the band’s mélange of fuzzed-out psych, infectious melody, and hand-clap breakdowns (often all in the same song). When Kevin and Anita get an idea for a song, they hear all the parts at once; the challenge is then to get all the sounds in their heads onto tape.

Viva Voce both continually challenges and stimulates the listener while holding them blissfully entranced. We suggest you recline in the comfy chair of your choice and dim the lights. Then, enjoy.

New Bill Mallonee tracks online

Two of the songs from the new Bill Mallonee / Victory Garden album Permafrost are up for your consumption at http://www.myspace.com/billmallonee

This is Bill’s band foray since Vigilants of Love in 2002. The album comes out in June, but two tracks are up now at Bill’s myspace site.

David Crowder Band releases B Collision June 27

David Crowder Band prepares to release B Collision: The Eschatology of Bluegrass June 27. The album follows the path of A Collision, which has been widely regarded as one of the best albums of 2005, receiving five-star reviews and comparisons to groundbreaking albums of the past and artists such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams.

In September 2005 David Crowder Band’s A Collision debuted at No. 39 on the Billboard Top 200, became an iTunes No. 1 hit and launched the top 10 R&R hit single, “Here Is Our King.” Lauded by Billboard, Washington Post, Knight-Ridder, Dallas Morning News, Relevant, CCM, etc., the album also sparked the band’s fastest selling album to date. The recording continues to be a SoundScan Christian Retail sales hit after 31-weeks. The album further captured GMA Music Award honors for Best Rock/Contemporary Album and Best Rock/Contemporary Song (“Here is Our King”).

Taking inspiration from its engaging live performances and with a full summer festival schedule (see www.DavidCrowderBand.com), David Crowder Band now offers B Collision, an intimate, acoustic version of its parent recording.

“We prepared and distributed a musical documentation entitled A Collision,” says David Crowder. “It would be rhetorical nonsense to have begun with B Collision. And thus, B follows A. It heaves its inspiration and meaning from what was ordered before it. It consists of a number of songs. Most of them rendered in the acoustical fashion. Simple constructions. Wood and metal strings. Vibrating the air. Some of these songs have been here before. But not presented in this manner. And then something fun happened on tour this fall. A moment of the “LIVE” variety that we insist on sharing.

Sleeping at Last’s new album coming in June

The guys from Sleeping at Last write, “We are so thrilled to announce that starting now, we will be taking PRE-ORDERS for our new full-length album, “KEEP NO SCORE”!! We expect to ship the pre-ordered CD’s out as soon as we get them in our hands (in June), which will be a little before it’s actual release date. And when you pre-order the album now, we will send you a link to download one of the songs early, shortly after your order (which will be the first time anyone has heard a part of the album!)”

To Pre-Order Keep No Score now, go to: www.sleepingatlast.com/products_cap.htm

For the time being, Keep No Score will ONLY be available through www.sleepingatlast.com and at shows.

“As some of you may already know, since early this year, we’ve been hard at work recording this album. We spent a couple of weeks recording at our favorite studio, Electrical Audio in Chicago and another few weeks near our hometown in the Chicago suburbs. Immediately after that, we flew out to a farm in Massachusetts, called Long View Farm Studios, where our album was mixed by our new friend, John Goodmanson ( Blonde Redhead, Death Cab For Cutie, Sleater Kinney), He did an incredible job! Now we’re back home and are so happy to tell you that our album is complete! We had the opportunity to work with wonderful people again on this album… playing Strings on 8 songs, we had Susan Voelz, Inger Carle, Vania Phillips & Alison Chesley, all of whom played strings on our last album, “Ghosts.” Our good friends, Bjorn Thorsrud & Greg Norman did a wonderful job engineering and made the project so much fun for us & so did our new friend, Rudy from New York. And for our cover artwork, an amazing artist/painter named Geoff Benzing (www.benzingart.com) did a beautiful job for us! You can view our new album cover-art now on our site!”

5/13 - Cornerstone Festival, FL
7/5 - Cornerstone Festival, IL
And a whole lot more to be announced soon!
