The Phantom Tollbooth’s News

30th September 2006

Dear Friends,

We in mewithoutyou are happy to announce that our new album “Brother, Sister” has finally been released. Anyone that has followed the band and listened to our music thus far should know that we really appreciate your eyes and ears and we hope that you enjoy our latest work. It came very naturally to us and was a pleasure to capture on record. We definitely took some new turns and explored new sides to our sound, but our last album did just that from the one before it so trust me on this and keep an open mind. It’s our goal to keep the band moving forward into the future. We are super proud of this album and are just as excited to share it with everyone who will hear it. It’s actually my favorite one yet.

Most of all we just want to keep saying thank you to all who allow us to do what we do, and have for so long now. It really means a great deal to us to recieve the e-mails, meet people at the pot luck dinners, see people at shows, visit peoples homes and travel the world. Without you all, we wouldn’t have been able to make this record and play music the way we get to do it. So far it’s been a dream that came true.

I hope that everyone out there is well! God Bless, mike weiss

Urban Hillbilly Quartet announces funeral for trusty lamp of good vibes

Friends and fellow mourners,

We regret to inform you that the Urban Hillbilly Quartet’s trusty lamp of good vibes–the lamp that has seen the band through thick and thin since that fateful gig when their paths first crossed at the Grand Texas Ballroom in Austin in September 2000–is approaching its final performance. Well, actually, just the lampshade is.

Quite likely if you have seen Erik or the UHQ anywhere in the USA over the last 6 years, you have seen the band’s rather beaten-up lamp, the shade held together completely by duct tape. The lamp has made its way to over 300 shows in 42 different states over the years.

After nearly starting a fire at a recent show, the band has come to the conclusion that it’s time to put it down.
“It’s a sad day for all of us,” stated bassist Greg Tippett in a recent press release, “but with every ending comes a new beginning.”

“Yep,” added guitarist Jeremy Szopinski.

We are looking to gather photos / memories / stories of the lampshade from our friends and fans to share at the official funeral service. Please email us back and we’ll compile them all for the service and website.

If you live in the area, please join the UHQ on Friday, Oct 13th to bid the trusty lampshade farewell. Officiating the service will be none other than the Honorable Reverend Russell Rathbun.

Anathallo to tour coast to coast with Page France.

Dearest Friends,

Hi! We just wanted to formally announce that in approximately one month we are going to embark on our first headlining tour with Maryland’s own Page France. This tour will find us playing longer sets in more intimate spaces. Tickets are cheaper too! Some of the venues have pre-sale tickets available through their websites. In some cases, that might be a good idea, as the spaces are kinda small.

For those of you planning on attending the shows in your area, our friend Sasha Barr has designed a limited run of tour posters which will be given to the first 20 people through the door every night… just a little somethin’ to say “thanks for coming”. All the dates are up on our myspace (http://www.myspace.com/anathallo) and website (http://www.anathallo.com/index2.html). Within the next couple days they should have finalized door time/ ticket cost/ line-up information.

Oh yeah, one more thing… We’re opening for Joanna Newsom next weekend at the University of Connecticut! Needless to say… we can’t believe it. Her lyrical transcendence is so moving. She has a very special gift of pairing the minutia of everydayness with a sense of grandeur that inspires such wonder. As if that weren’t enough, her new record, Ys, features the arrangements of legendary Brian Wilson collaborator, Van Dyke Parks. It will surely be an evening to remember.

Hope this finds you well. Wash your hands often, the flu is going around.

See you soon!
Anathallo

Dead Poetic Tour Cancellations and more

We’ve been receiving tons of e-mails from fans wondering what happened with our “Days of Reckoning Tour” with Pillar, Kids in the Way, and the Showdown. Unfortunately, due to routing conflicts and other reasons we did have to drop off the tour. That tour is still happening though, and I’m sure it will be killer, so when it comes through your area, be sure to be there! Pillar’s new record rules, so be sure to support those guys!
With cancelling one tour, we picked up another one. We’ll be embarking on a full US tour running from late October to mid-December with The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. These guys are an awesome band, and great members. We’re excited to hit the west coast again. It seems like ages since we’ve been out there. More info coming very soon!!
We’re going back and forth with edits of our new video for “Narcotic.” Hopefully we’ll get everything ironed out and it will be online soon!

U2/GreenDay/Superdome/25th

This is too cool for words, so indulge me. U2 and Green Day have teamed up to do a cover of the Scottish punk band The Skids’ song “The Saints Are Coming”. They will play it at the pregame show on Monday Night Football on the 25th of September when the New Orleans Saints take on the Atlanta Falcons at the newly re-opened Superdome. The Skids, virtually unheard of in the States, became fairly popular in the late 70’s/early 80’s in Britain and the guitar playing of a young guitarist named Stuart Adamson had a huge effect on The Edge’s playing. Make no mistake, The Edge is spearheading this event. Stuart Adamson, of course, split to form Big Country and released their debut album The Crossing in 1983. The song “The Saints Are Coming” will be a charity single to help musicians in New Orleans.

Ahoy! Ahoy!

THE SAINTS ARE COMING!!!
