Urban Hillbilly Quartet announces funeral for trusty lamp of good vibes

Friends and fellow mourners,

We regret to inform you that the Urban Hillbilly Quartet’s trusty lamp of good vibes–the lamp that has seen the band through thick and thin since that fateful gig when their paths first crossed at the Grand Texas Ballroom in Austin in September 2000–is approaching its final performance. Well, actually, just the lampshade is.

Quite likely if you have seen Erik or the UHQ anywhere in the USA over the last 6 years, you have seen the band’s rather beaten-up lamp, the shade held together completely by duct tape. The lamp has made its way to over 300 shows in 42 different states over the years.

After nearly starting a fire at a recent show, the band has come to the conclusion that it’s time to put it down.
“It’s a sad day for all of us,” stated bassist Greg Tippett in a recent press release, “but with every ending comes a new beginning.”

“Yep,” added guitarist Jeremy Szopinski.

We are looking to gather photos / memories / stories of the lampshade from our friends and fans to share at the official funeral service. Please email us back and we’ll compile them all for the service and website.

If you live in the area, please join the UHQ on Friday, Oct 13th to bid the trusty lampshade farewell. Officiating the service will be none other than the Honorable Reverend Russell Rathbun.
