Vigilantes of Love bass player in tragic accident

Jon Guthrie, Vigilantes of Love bass player and mulit-instrumentalist extraordinare, died in a fatal car accident last Saturday, Sept. 26th. He was just barely 26 years old. Jon was one of the most genuine example’s of kindness and grace I’ve ever met; The loss to his family and friends and the Athens, Ga. community is immeasurable.  Jon Guthrie

Jon was a long time Athens, Ga musican of immense talent; He had recently played for VoL over the last 8 months; (His guitarist father, Michael Guthrie, sold me my first guitar in 1991 when Jon was barely 8 years old.) Jon played bass and sang in his dad’s band (The Michael Guthrie Band) for years and toured the UK and Europe extensively with that “Brit-pop” influenced outfit. Jon’s knowledge of the Beatles catalogue and his love for that genre was considerable. His affable good nature, easy-going attitude and staggering talent made him one of the town’s most sought after players. The loss of such a friend and talent is beyond words. It was a privilege and an honor to play with Jon.

We ask your prayers and graces for his mother, Vanda, his father, Michael, and his brother, Julian at this time of the loss of their son.
