Kingdom Bound talent search deadline is May 15, Disciple added to lineup

Kingdom Bound 2008 talent search deadline is May 15th

Kingdom Bound Ministries is holding a talent search via sonicbids.com, where aspiring independent Christian artists have the chance to win a performance slot at this year’s Kingdom Bound festival in August. The deadline to enter is May 15th, so time’s running out– click here for all the details on how to enter before it’s too late.

Meanwhile, Kingdom Bound tickets are currently available for purchase and the festival has their most diverse line-up in twenty-two years, so get your tickets today by calling 800-461-4485.

This summer’s Kingdom Bound international Christian music festival will take place August 3-6, 2008, at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort in Darien Center, New York, halfway between Buffalo and Rochester. The park has several new rides this year, including a new “American Chopper” motorcycle-themed roller coaster!

FYI: #1– Disciple, the hard rock band, has been added to the line-up. Disciple’s songs like “Game On” and “In The Middle Of It Now” are well-known to sports’ fans, as they’re used in WWE wrestling matches and NFL football games.

#2–Matthew West, a talented singer-songwriter known for the hit contemporary Christian radio songs “More,” “Happy,” “Only Grace,” and “History,” has been added to the line-up.

#3–Speakers James Ryle and Keith Davis have been added to the line-up. James Ryle was an orphan who landed in prison, but later on went on to become a board member of the Christian men’s movement known as Promise Keepers. Keith Davis is a former NFL football player who talks to young people about issues they’re dealing with like self-esteem, bullying, and peer pressure.

Kingdom Bound, one of North America’s largest and longest running events of its kind, typically attracts about 60,000 people from all over the United States and Canada for four days of faith, fun, and fellowship through concerts and seminars.

“Families love coming to Kingdom Bound because they can ride Darien Lake’s many roller coasters, splash around in the water park on a hot summer’s day, and even stay on-grounds in a tent, RV, or the deluxe hotel,” says Mark Weber, of BuffaloChristian.com. “Kingdom Bound is also where all sorts of people from different backgrounds and beliefs gather together to hear thoughtful speakers and inspiring singers and musicians coming from a Christian perspective. It’s become an annual summer tradition for many families (to attend), and over 500 volunteers help make it run smoothly.”

Confirmed artists for Kingdom Bound 2008 include:

EVENING HEADLINERS

SUNDAY (8/3/08): Lincoln Brewster, who was born in Homer, Alaska, and once toured with Journey’s Steve Perry (praise & worship, this night is very much like a giant outdoor church service)

MONDAY (8/4/08): multi-platinum, three time Grammy-winning band Third Day(Southern rock, heavy on the guitars, and featuring the muscular voice of lead singer Mac Powell)

TUESDAY (8/5/08): multi-platinum, Latin Grammy-nominated pop singer/actress Jaci Velasquez performs with her band, then with her husband Nic Gonzales, of Salvador, and then Nic’s band, Salvador, closes out the night (Latin-pop, you might learn some Spanish words when this newly married couple, backed by a percussion-intense band, make beautiful music together)

WEDNESDAY (8/6/08): the Newsboys, a Kingdom Bound mainstay originally from Australia (groovin’ pop-rock, get on your feet and dance, as this energetic band, with its rotating-in-the-air drum set and amazing light show, brings the party wherever it goes)

DURING THE DAYS

Worship artists Paul Baloche, Leeland, Vicky Beeching (British, educated at Oxford), Jason Upton (Prophetic), Robin Mark and Kathryn Scott (Celtic), Matt Maher (Catholic), Ricardo (Latin), Rick Cua, and Lenny LeBlanc

Rockers Delirious (British), Skillet, Seventh Day Slumber, Fireflight, Big Daddy Weave, DecembeRadio, Grey Holiday

Female rockers Ilia (all-female band), Joy Whitlock, and Stephanie Smith

Canadian rock bands Thousand Foot Krutch and Hawk Nelson (both started in Peterborough, Ontario), as well as Manic Drive and Turn Off The Stars (both from Toronto)

More variety pop-country band 33 Miles (featuring former “True Vibe” boy bander Jason Barton); hip-hop act Manafest (from Toronto); reggae-soul band NewWorldSon (from Niagara Falls, Ontario); big band/swing act Denver and the Mile High Orchestra (recently finished in the top 3 of Fox-TV’s “The Next Great American Band” show); and Western New York bands The Dig Project (from Rochester) and Relevant Worship (from Buffalo)

Kingdom Bound 2008 event or day pass tickets are now on sale, and include admission to the majority of Darien Lake’s amusement park rides. Specially-priced “after 5pm” tickets are available for commuters. Campsite/RV/Hotel packages are also available. Call 800-461-4485 or visit www.kingdombound.org for more information, tickets, or reservations.

Kingdom Bound needs volunteers
If you can volunteer your time to help out at this year’s Kingdom Bound, please do so. Volunteers typically work about 5 hours during the day and get the rest of the day “free” to enjoy the park, concerts, and seminars, so it’s a great way for those who may not be able to afford the admission price to still be a part of the festival, and help make it run smoothly, too! Kingdom Bound typically has about 500 volunteers so you’ll have lots of company if you do come and help– you need to fill out a form which includes a pastoral recommendation, and you need to attend a training session (typically held in June or July). For more info, visit www.kingdombound.org or call 716-633-1117 to ask for a volunteer application to be sent to you.

Brian “Head” Welch Speaking at Cornerstone

Brian Welch

On Saturday, July 5th Brian “Head” Welch, formerly of the mega rock band Korn, will share his journey to faith, how he found God, quit the band, kicked drugs, and lived to tell his story. He will be speaking at Breakaway at 10:30 a.m. and on Cornerstone Festival’s Main Stage at 7:50 p.m.

“The enthusiasm from Korn’s early days was gone. I just sat there in so much dark depression . . . How did I get here? . . . Why is my life such a nightmare? . . . It felt like I was under a curse, honestly. I was stuck And it didn’t look like I was ever going to get out.” –Brian “Head” Welch

The City of Mt. Juliet has declared April 26 “The McDougal Family Day”. Diane will be performing at 2:00 pm.

Diane Kay CD

The benefit concert will be held in honor of the McDougal Family for three of their four children who suffer from Cystic Fibrosis with the oldest son who has developed Aspergillus, which is a respiratory disease. The McDougals need a home that is allergen free. Greg McDougal, the father of the children is a former songwriter for EMI Nashville and was pursuing a record deal. He even had a song recorded by Atlantic Recording artist John Michael Montgomery. Greg soon learned that God had other plans for him that changed his family’s life. Greg will be performing after Diane Kay.

Christian Singer-Songwriter and Pro-Life Advocate Diane Kay is a resident of Acworth, Georgia which is a northern suburb of Atlanta. Her new CD “HELP ME DECIDE”, produced by Creative Soul Records of Nashville, was released in March of 2007. The album features Diane’s original material and is a compilation of 70’s style rock, alternative, a little country flair and ballads. The new album is described by CD BABY as “Emotional, real life songs of Christian faith and some rocking praise as well”. SOCKSPIDER ALBUM REVIEWS quotes,”Diane Kay’s “Help Me Decide” is many things….fragile, deep, Christ-led, intricate, skillfully written, well produced, and soulfully sung; but most importantly, it was meant-to-be”.

The title song “Help Me Decide” is Diane’s personal testimony of an unplanned pregnancy in her young adult life and how Jesus gave her the strength and courage to give life to her son, despite the great adversity she faced at that time. She hopes to reach many through her music with songs of her faith, hope and love for Jesus Christ. She currently serves as a volunteer counselor at Cobb Pregnancy Services in Marietta, Georgia and is a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church also located in Marietta, where she serves in the adult choir as well as a 3rd Grade Choir Director. Diane Kay’s music is available in the “i-Tunes” store and can be heard on www.thespiritradio.net.
