Vigilantes of Love re-form, plan ‘09 album

Hello friends and fans,

We just want to catch you up on the latest shows and news. As you have probably heard, Vigilantes of Love has reformed, and will be playing at the 40 Watt in Athens, Ga. on Thursday 11/20. Plans are in the works for a new album in early 2009. The new (and we might add, stunning) line up of players in VOL are A.J. Adams on pedal steele, Jon Guthrie on bass, and John Cable on drums, with former VOL alum Kevin Heuer guesting on occasion.

Other 2008 highlights -

We’ve logged 30,000 miles over 65 shows this year (and still counting) - that’s an average of 461 miles per gig! Whew!

3 recordings were released this year:

Lower Case which was our first studio recording in 2 years.

Billtunes came to an end and Works Progress Administration (WPA) began with

Recent Demos and WPA Volume 1 (more volumes are to follow).

We got stuck for 3 days in this… Snow Storm 08

…and were pleased to meet this artist. Gillian Welch and Muriah Rose

Fireproof now in theaters for seventh straight week, bearing much fruit

Standing the Test of Time

In the movie business, time is not an ally. Movies reach their zenith during the first weekend. From there, audience numbers tumble and before you know it, the movie you wanted to see is no longer playing in your local theater.
FIREPROOF, however, continues bucking most Hollywood trends. Of course, when a movie is produced in Albany, Georgia by a church using more than 1,000 volunteers, you know that any conventional movie-industry wisdom has been left by the wayside.

Through six weeks in theaters, FIREPROOF remains a strong, consistent offering in nearly 900 theaters each week. After opening at No. 4 and remaining in the Top 10 for three weeks, the film has finished at No. 11 twice and No. 13 in the last three weeks. Major blockbusters that also opened on September 26 have faded away while FIREPROOF continues reaching an audience of people like Carlos with its message of hope.

“I’m a 23-year-old male who is about to get married in just two weeks. My fiancée and I went to the movies late Saturday and saw FIREPROOF. We left that place so touched. We both are strong Christians and faithful to the Lord, and it was so awesome to see the couples around us being touched by this movie. I know that we will face difficult times like everyone else. This movie has helped us prepare our hearts for that.”

 Don’t Miss Your Opportunity

While FIREPROOF remains strong, it is beginning its seventh week in theaters this Friday. On a recent blog post by someone who loved the movie and asked for comments from others that had seen it, the first three responses were along the lines of “I haven’t seen it yet, but I can’t wait.”

To put it bluntly those folks—and others like them—are running out of time. Holiday blockbusters are just around the corner at local cineplexes, meaning fewer screens will be available for FIREPROOF in the coming weeks.

Why is it important to see FIREPROOF now? Ask Jenna, who went with her husband:

“My husband and I are in the divorce process. I have been living on my own for almost three months. We have been married for almost eight years. We were advised by two totally different people to go watch this movie. It was pretty intense because more than 90 percent of the movie was about my marriage. We both had tears in our eyes and held each other when the movie was over. God is starting a miracle as I type.”

Or Rachel, who went with a friend:

“I took a friend who had told me a week before, ‘I’m not even sure I believe in marriage.’ My heart sank at those words. I had already seen it once but loved it and told her she should come with me to see it again. I was afraid she would hate the movie, or think I was hitting her upside the head with a Bible, so to speak. But she loved it! She left the theater saying it was refreshing, and it was the only thing in a long time that made her think maybe marriage can actually work!”

 The Heart of a Movement

Whereas most movies strive to entertain, FIREPROOF goes there and beyond to touch the hearts and challenge the lives of moviegoers. Nearly 2,000 people have shared their stories of how this movie has impacted them on FireprooftheMovie.com, including Grace. Who do you know like her that could benefit from this movie?

“I have been waiting for this movie since the moment I heard about it. Thank you for FIREPROOF. Four years ago, our marriage survived adultery. It should never have happened, but it did. Without the Lord, we would not have made it. I am so glad that someone is addressing the subject of marriage from God’s perspective.

“Too many times in Christian circles ‘marriage problems’ are looked upon as taboo to talk about because everyone will think you are a terrible person. But without strong, God-centered marriages, we can’t have strong homes or children or churches or communities or nations. Now more than ever, we need God in our homes! Thank you for this ‘movement.’ Marriage God’s way is amazing, in spite of its difficulties. It’s worth every effort!”
